A smokey eye, a sleek ponytail and a pre-wedding game of pool… Catriona and Andrew had the perfect laid-back wedding. And we had the pleasure of styling Catriona’s wedding hair and makeup.

Setting The Scene

The setting is Broadmeadows House in Selkirk, Scotland – close to where the groom’s family would frequently holiday. “When we got engaged we thought of all the places we could get married, but we couldn’t find a venue that had any meaning for us. Andrew’s dad is from Selkirk so he grew up on holidays to the Borders. Scotland is magical, and we couldn’t think of a better place to create more memories.”

As well has having sentimental attachments, Broadmeadows provided the perfect backdrop for the intimate wedding. With luxury, yet comfortable decor sure to make anyone feel at home and stunning landscapes, ideal for wedding photos.

The Wedding Hair and Makeup Team of Dreams

Seeking a less traditional and more on-trend bridal look, Catriona stumbled across AMM on a wedding hair and makeup blog and immediately followed us on Instagram…

“I was searching for a company who had style, knew the latest trends and applied them to weddings. My fear was make up and hair styling that was bridal but not very me, I wanted to look like the best version of myself and stay true to my individual style. After stalking the AMM Instagram for some time I could see they style loads of different brides in a modern way. I felt comfortable that they would make me look like me, but the best version. To top it off, responses were quick and all my questions were answered fully, so I knew I was in safe hands.”

Smokey-eyed Wedding Makeup

When it came to makeup, Catriona knew exactly what she wanted. “Makeup was the easy part,  I’ve always loved makeup and love to dress up with it. I had already decided I wanted a strong smokey eye that would bring out the green in my eyes. I also wanted to go big with the eye makeup because my dress was so simple.”

Our fabulous makeup artist Donna helped bring Catriona’s makeup wishes to life. Donna used MAC strobe cream, an iridescent cream that gives a lovely glow under foundation.  A big worry when getting married on a hot Summer day is that the foundation won’t last the day. Although Catriona wanted a sheer, glowing look Donna used a more medium coverage foundation (Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation) to ensure that it would last through the humidity. To enhance the subtle glow, MAC’s Faintly Fabulous highlighter was used, a soft natural shimmer with four shades in one. When it came to the  statement smokey eye Donna aimed to create depth. An array of shadows were used to achieve this, but predominantly Huda Beauty’s Dessert Dusk Pallet.

Wedding Hair Finished With Ribbons

Hair was more of a challenge for Catriona. However, at the all-important wedding hair and makeup trial she fell in love with her dream bridal hairstyle. “Hair was the hard part for me… I used Instagram and Pinterest to look through hairstyles but mainly looked at the red carpet for inspiration. I’m rubbish at doing my own hair so I basically didn’t decide anything until the week of the wedding and my trial with the ladies. Anne Marie was brilliant, she tried loads of different styles and accessories. I had thought about a ponytail so when Anne Marie suggested it, I jumped at it! Then she put a ribbon in my hair and I was sold.”

The Perfect Day

“It was the best day ever and each part was awesome. I loved getting ready with the ladies in the morning, watching our guests arrive, our pre-wedding pool game, the ceremony, the ceilidh, the food, our evening photo shoot with Caro Weiss running around in the fields! I just loved it and would relive it exactly as it was.”

And those photos by wedding photographer Caro Weiss turned out absolutely magical… Perfectly capturing the intimacy and emotion.
